Cruinniú na nÓg 2023 at Henrietta St – Saturday 10th June, bígí linn!

On Saturday 10th June, Na Píobairí Uilleann welcomes young families and children to Henrietta St. from 11am – 2pm as part of Cruinniú na nÓg 2023.

In celebration of Ireland’s national day of free creativity for children and young people, NPU will host a “Try the Pipes” morning for children aged 5-18 years old, followed by a Young Piper’s recital.

Participants will get the opportunity to learn about and experience Ireland’s native instrument, the uilleann pipes. This will take place at NPU headquarters, 15 Henrietta St., Dublin 1 and admission is free.

The event will commence at 11am with a “Try the Pipes” session, where children will have opportunity to get their first taste of playing the pipes with the guidance of two experienced uilleann pipers, Colm Broderick and Maeve O’Donnell. The tutors will give a short performance and demonstration of the pipes and will then assist children in trying a practice set of pipes for themselves.

The second half of the event will commence at 1:10pm with a special Young Piper’s recital featuring three young pipers who are currently taking lessons in NPU headquarters at Henrietta St.

Na Píobairí Uilleann would like to thank the Cruinniú na nÓg team at Dublin City Council for their generous support.
