UNESCO Open Call

UNESCO recognition for Uilleann Piping

THE IRISH STATE has recently ratified the UNESCO Convention on Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH). That Convention established a ‘Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’, and Ireland is in the process of nominating our art — UILLEANN PIPING — for inclusion on that list. Na Píobairí Uilleann is liaising with the Government in preparing the nomination. The submission should represent the views of the broad piping community, and we wish to involve as many individual pipers and organized groups as possible. Support should take the form of written messages of support for the initiative, and where possible these should be forwarded on paper bearing the logo of the group concerned.

These must be received before the end of February 2016, and should be forwarded to NPU, 15 Henrietta Street, Dublin 1, or, in scanned form, to terry@pipers.ie.

Further information on the Convention and on ICH may be found on the UNESCO website:
