Culture Night with Na Píobairí Uilleann
Taking place on Friday 20th September 6pm-10pm, Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir is brought to you by the Arts Council; it is a national moment, celebrating culture, creativity and the arts and seeks to actively promote the belief that this rich and varied culture is alive, treasured and nurtured in people’s lives, today and every day. It is delivered nationwide in cities, towns, villages and rural locations as well as online and through our media partners.
On September 20th 2024 doors will open later and special and unique events will be specifically programmed at participating locations and, thanks to the continued support of the Arts Council and Local Authorities across the island of Ireland, all activities will be available to the public free of charge.
Na Píobairí Uilleann (NPU) welcome visitors to their headquarters, located in their historical Georgian building on one of Ireland’s most architecturally important streets. Come and listen to a short illustrated talk on all things uilleann piping in their dedicated archive and library. Head downstairs to hear live uilleann piping performances from some of Ireland’s young and established leading players on this uniquely Irish musical instrument.
Talks take place every hour with performances from different uilleann pipers taking place every 20 minutes.
Activities during the event take place both upstairs and downstairs with no lift access. The venue also requires attendees to walk up 4-5 steps into the building.
