9 1 18 20130207 18 ~ From the Archive ~ TUNES FROM TOMMY RECK I N THE FOLLOWING TUNES noted from Tommy Reck, the X shaped note head indicates a cut and lift on G in the second octave. This is a characteristic technique employed by Tommy. It is different from a pop and is worth noting. It applies to the note sequence F# G in the second octave – where G is the accented note. He lifts the chanter for the G while cutting it with an A grace note giving a particularly strong emphasis to the note. The first playing of each tune has been notated except in the case of ‘The Scholar’ where the full performance has been notated to illustrate Tommy's extensive use of variation.
