Píobaire, An 8 5 20 20121206 20 THE UILLEANN PIPES IN CONTEMPORARY CONCERT MUSIC Part 5 – A Catalogue of Contemporary Concert Works featuring the Uilleann Pipes Dr. Dave Flynn T HE FOLLOWING CATALOGUE is the most up to date list of works featuring uilleann pipes at the time of writing. I compiled the list mostly with the aid of the Contemporary Music Cen- tre library catalogue. There are a number of works also included which are not in this cat- alogue. It is likely there are more works featuring uilleann pipes that I have not discovered. Therefore my list should be considered a strongly representative rather than definitive list. In some cases I was unable to find the date of composition or the duration of the piece. These works are but a small representation of the amount of contemporary concert works to fea- ture parts written exclusively for Irish traditional musicians. In my research I have compiled a list of over two hundred such pieces. The majority of these works remain unpublished, unavailable on commercial recordings, little performed and thus virtually unknown. The appreciation for contemporary Irish music can only be improved if this unfortunate neglect is addressed by record companies and contemporary arts organisations. 1.
