Píobaire, An 8 5 15 20121206 15 A huge amount of thanks is owed to NPU staff (Gerry, Sandie, Terry and Gay) and also to Ste- fan, Ray O’Toole, Conor McMahon, and Niall Kelleher and Daniela Ferretti who assisted on the day. And of course to all who got involved in put- ting on an event, many, many thanks. You are the ones who make IUPD a success. We’re already thinking ahead to next year and have nominated October 19th as IUPD 2013. So please get cracking on your plans!! You can view all the photos forwarded to us on: www.facebook.com/uilleannpipingday Ken Lynam and Emmett Gill, Board members Bryan Henderson. Vancouver Island: Uilleann piping day went very well, with ten pipers present. The audience was quite engaged, asking many questions. Most of them had never heard the uilleann pipes before, and they were enchanted. James Horan, Manchester: Coffee and pipes were the order of the day with a delicious helping of jigs, reels and hornpipes. What a lovely way to spend an autumn Satur- day morning! Speaking of excellent piping, Simon Doyle was in attendance with his musical young family. Mike Leighton, Lake District: The event has encouraged us to meet up, and we are likely now to stay in touch by email and organise a monthly get-together. Tom Walsh, Preston: The five pipers each took it in turn to play 10-15 minute spots in front of two display tables, on which were laid out the sets of pipes not in use, and some ex- amples of reeds, guills, cane staples etc, all with laminated labels, with one or more of the pipers in attendance to oversee and explain to any interested members of the public. Helena Rowsome, Stormont: They were very excited when I agreed to exhibit my fa- ther’s own pipes in the Great Hall, and cleared a glass case for that purpose. Ever since moving north in 1970, I dreamt of hearing the sound of the uilleann pipes in the Great Hall at Stormont Joe Crane, Newcastle: Eddie Charles brought his set of Robert Reid Union Pipes made about 1810 – a very elegant set that Eddie has devoted many years to getting to play. Áine Hensey, Mlltown Malbay: We really enjoyed the event and the live streaming made for a great atmosphere here as we waited to go ‘live’, and then gave each of the pipers an opportunity to perform
