8 1 27 20120206 27 I WAS BORN IN WOLVERHAMPTON, England, with an Irish mother and an English father. All my life I have had a love of painting and drawing, especially portraiture, and began taking on commissions several years ago. I also developed an interest in my Irish connec- tions and traditional music, learning to play the flute and whistle. I play regularly at local ses- sions and as a member of a céili band. It followed that I began to paint and draw mu- sicians from the Irish traditional music scene, hopefully capturing something of the spirit of the music and bringing together two major as- pects of my life. I have been a professional artist for several years, exhibiting my work in Britain and Ireland, notably at the Joe Mooney Summer School in Drumshanbo and at the All Ireland Fleadh. I have produced artwork for several CDs by musicians such as Noel Hill, John Wynne, Catherine McEvoy, Ali Bain and Phil Cunningham, and recently illustrated Eileen O’Brien’s book about the life and music of her father, Paddy O’Brien. I work mainly in pencil or watercolour but can also produce pictures in pastels, acrylics or pen and wash.
