THE BOY IN THE TREE LISA SHIELDS suggests “An Buachaill sa Chrann / The Boy in the Tree” for our “Picture That” feature, remarking that it’s a tune that deserves to be better known. This setting, as suggested by Lisa, is from vol- ume IV of Breandán Breathnach’s collection Ceol Rince na hÉireann, edited by Jackie Small (Dublin 1996). This setting was col- lected from the Dublin/Monaghan piper Jack Wade, and a note appended to the tune in Bre- andán’s collection seems to attribute it ulti- mately to Pat Carney of Longford. Readers are invited to submit photographs de- picting the title of an Irish tune.
