The picture below shows Liam with his patron, the Baron of Fetternear. Although kitted out in his persona of a highland piper, it is specific- cally for his ability as a player of the ‘Irish union pipes’ that he has received this appoint- ment. The official warrant establishing his po- sition (see inset below) reads in full as follows: THE MUCH HONOURED BARON OF FETTERNEAR M.B.E., J.P. Now therefore I do by these presents, appoint William Hackett, and grant unto him the Honoury Position of Pipe Major and the Title Personal Piper to the Baron and Barony of Fetternear So long as he doth give good and leal service to our Barony. Given the Eighteenth day of October in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Ten and in the Fifty Ninth Year of the Reign of Our Sover- eign Lady Queen Elizabeth the Second.
