Píobaire, An 7 3 26 20110711 26 ~ COMPETITION ~ PICTURE THAT! JENNY’S CHICKENS W HEN introducing this feature in the last issue, we had in mind the idea that read- ers would submit an image of some object or place, or even person, whose name was at- tached to an Irish tune. How many people, for instance, have seen a sally garden, or a coolin? We were not expecting photo-shopped inven- tions such as this issue’s winning entry from Ronan Browne, who also sent several ‘found’ images which, while perfectly illustrating par- ticular tunes, might have shocked our more sensitive readers. Ronan gets to pick the free CD on this occasion. Readers are invited to submit photographs de- picting the title of an Irish tune. The most in- ventive and/or original will be printed in An Píobaire, and the sender can select a compli- mentary CD from our online shop. NOT a tune commonly played by pipers, this setting is taken from David Hanrahan’s accordion tutor The Box (Ossian Publications 1989). The only recording of the tune by a piper seems to be the one by Mickey Dunne on his 1998 CD A True Born Irish- man.
