THE DEATH has occurred of the piper and pipemaker Lorcan Dunne. Our regrets and condolences are extended to Lorcan’s wife Ann and his family and friends. WEEKLy NPU PIPING & REED-MAKING CLASSES: Held weekly during the months September to May on Tuesday nights. Classes start each hour from 5pm to 8pm. NPU RECITALS: Held in The Cobblestone on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:30pm Mar 4th – Peter Browne (pipes), Noel Hill (concertina), Toner Quinn (fiddle) and Malachy Bourke (fiddle) Apr 1st – Mick O’Brien (pipes), Ciara O’Brien (fiddle), Emer Mayock (flute) and Luke Cheevers (songs) May 6th – John Tuohy (pipes), Dermot Burke (fiddle), Seán Ó Broin (flute) and Cormac de Barra (harp) NOTES & NARRATIVES: Held in Henrietta St. on the 2nd/3rd Friday of each month at 8:30pm. Feb 21st – Professor Fergus Kelly : Early Irish Music – An Overview of the Linguistic and Documentary Evidence Mar 21st – Seán Gilrane : The Life and Music of the legendary Leitrim fluteplayer John McKenna Apr 18th – Aoife Granville : Musicking and Marching Through The Year: Dingle’s Calendar Customs LEO ROWSOME COMMEMORATIVE EVENT: Held annually on the last Saturday in February. The 2014 event will take place on the 22nd of February. NPU TIONÓL: Held annually on the weekend before the last Monday of May, in 2014 the weekend of May 23rd to 25th, in Listowel, co. Kerry. ADVANCED REED-MAKING CLASSES: Classes are held each summer. See page 11. SCOIL SAMHRAIDHWILLIE CLANCy: Held annually on the first full calendar week in July. It always starts on the first Saturday of July, the 5th of July in 2014. ACE & DEUCE OF PIPING CONCERT: Held annually on the first weekend in October, the 2013 concert will take place on Saturday October 5th. See page 10 for details. INTERNATIONAL UILLEANN PIPING DAy: Now an annual event, next year’s global day of uilleann piping will take place on Saturday 18th of October. BREANDÁN BREATHNACH COMMEMORATION: Held annually on the first Saturday of December. The 2014 event will take place on Saturday, December 6th.
