Píobaire, An 8 4 13 20120927 13 Sinéad Nic Cárthaigh and Pádraig Óg Mac Aodhagáin performing at the PipeCraft opening successfully producing the first project chanter of the 3 year programme. During the final week of the first term we were delighted to celebrate this achievement by of- ficially launching the 3 year programme on June 27th where Jimmy Deenhan Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaelteacht, unveiled a plaque dedicated to the establishment of the full time training programme which was com- plemented by a tune from esteemed piper Liam O’Flynn. Guests on the day were entertained by two young pipers, Pádraig Óg MacAodha- gain and Sinéad Nic Cárthaigh during the morning. We would like to thank all who at- tended on the day and helped to make it a very memorable occasion. The summer break for the full time trainees gave a window of opportunity to re-run the “Introduction to Pipe Making Course” and I am glad to say that it has been an equally re- warding course with enthusiastic and dedicated participants from near and far. Mike Fitzgerald travelled from Australia to take part. Mike had been keeping an eye on the progress of the training centre since it was first announced and in particular since the first 6 week course was run last year. Much has been learned and friendships forged that will hopefully grow into the future. Also during the summer months the usual reed making workshops were run with Donnacha Dwyer, Dave Hegarty and Donnacha Keegan sharing their knowledge and experience with a new branch of reed makers who will hopefully go on and hone their new found skill, enhanc- ing their piping experience. September 10th saw the return of the full time trainees for the second term in the programme and each trainee will complete their first practice set, continue work on their second chanter proj- ect, which was step bored and initially reamed before the summer recess, and continue their journey towards pipe making success.
