NPU RECITALS: Held on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:30pm July 5th – Donnacha Dwyer (pipes), Jacqui Martin (fiddle), Lorraine Sweeney (flute) and Nell Ní Chróinín (songs) August 2nd – Seán Óg Potts (pipes), Paudie O’Connor (accordion), Aoife O’Keeffe (fiddle) and Seán Garvey (songs) September 6th – Ronan Browne (pipes), Kevin Glackin (fiddle), Seán Tyrrell (songs) and Paul Finn (accordion) NOTES & NARRATIVES: Held on the third Friday of each month at 8:30pm. July 15th – Cathal Goan : What the song doesn’t tell you: ‘údar an amhráin’ in one Donegal song August 19th – Seán Donnelly – ‘Honourably Received, and Much Caressed, at Cal- cutta’: An Irish Piper at the Court of an Indian King, 1817–24 September 16th – John Blake : A History of Irish Flute Playing in London LEO ROWSOME COMMEMORATIVE EVENT: Held annually on the last Saturday in February. NPU TIONÓL: Held annually on the weekend before the last Monday of May, the 25th May in 2012. PIPING AND REED-MAKING MASTERCLASSES: Week-long classes are held during June, July and August each year. SCOIL SAMHRAIDH WILLIE CLANCY: Held annually on the first full calendar week in July. It always starts on the first Saturday of July, the 7th of July in 2012. ACE & DEUCE OF PIPING CONCERT: Held annually on the first weekend in October, the 2011 concert will take place on Sunday October 2nd. BREANDÁN BREATHNACH COMMEMORATION: Held annually on the first Saturday of De- cember. The 2011 event will take place on Saturday, December 3rd. SOUTH WALES UILLEANN PIPERS T HE 2011 Tionól of the South Wales pipers will take place this year in the Holy Trin- ity Church, Tylorstown on 3rd September. This year’s tutors are Mick O’Brien, Alan Bur- ton, with Emma Sweeney taking an Irish fiddle class. There will also be a Celtic Night Con- cert at the same location starting at 7:00pm, followed by a session in a local pub. There will be a pre-tionól “curry and a pint” on Friday 2nd Sept at a local pub followed by a tradi- tional music session. The price of £25 includes tea / coffee, lunch and entry to Celtic Night Concert.
