Píobaire, An 7 1 7 20110224 7 PIPEMAKERS SHOWCASE F OLLOWING the success of last year, Na Píobairí Uilleann are again inviting Pipemakers to showcase their instruments in our display room at the Rowsome commemo- ration on Saturday 26th February 2011. Space may be tight this year so we would en- courage all who are interested in taking part to get in touch as soon as possible. Please register your interest with Sandie by Friday 15th Octo- ber on 01 8730093 or email sandie@pipers.ie SPONSORED CYCLE L AST YEAR’S successful sponsored cycle to Miltown Malbay from Dublin will be re- peated this year. The group will leave Dublin on Friday 1st July and arrive in Miltown on Satur- day 3rd, just in time for the beginning of the Willie Clancy Summer School. Members and friends of NPU are invitied to participate in this exercise, which is hoped to raise our taget of €20,000 towards the cost of our PIPECRAFT initia- tive in pipe-making training. Donations to the pipe-making training fund can be made via the on-line shop using the ‘Dona- tions’ link under “Store Navigation” or by send- ing a cheque c/o Na Píobairí Uilleann, 15 Henrietta St. Dublin 1. REED-MAKING WEEKS W EEK-LONG fulltime reed-making courses will be held during the summer, on 20- 24 June, 25-29 July and 22-26 August. They will take place at the PIPECRAFT training centre in the Port Tunnel Business Park in Clon- shaugh, just off the Oscar Traynor Road in Dublin 17. SUMMER SCHOOL IN CUMBRIA B RIAN HOWARD advises that registration for the Summer School in Alston, Cum- bria, on 26th June – 2nd July is now open, and that places are limited. Alston is the highest market town in England, and is close to the Lake District and Hadrians Wall. The summer school will conisist of a week of piping for beginners to advanced pipers. The tutors will be Dermot Hyde (a member of PIPELINE, a German-based band, and Brian Howard. The cost of £500.00 will include full board accommodation, tuition, and a day trip to Morpeth Bagpipe Museum. A deposit of £100.00 with registration is required to secure a place. ERRANT ELBOWS H ARRY BRADLEY has set up an online piping blog at http://errantelbows.podbean.com/ Operating basically as a podcast, Harry posts a new tune to it every couple of days as an MP3 soundclip. Users of the site are welcomed to provide feedback on the music. HUBERT KWISTHOUT H UBERT KWISTHOUT wishes to announce his return to fulltime pipe-making, after an absence of a number of years due to other work, and has offered to donate to NPU a con- cert pitch practice set for our pipes-on-loan scheme.
