Píobaire, An 6 5 12 20101217 12 T he painting reproduced at right was acquired recently. Measuring 17cm by 22cm it is an oil painting on a panel. There is no provenance for the picture, but it appears to be a 19th century work. A digital image of the painting may be viewed on SOURCE, in the “Pipes in Art” gallery. We are grateful to the member who alerted us to it being advertised online, and made possible the addition of this attracive painting to our collection. A photograph of London piper Tom Sheridan playing in The Hibernian in Fulham Broadway was received from Alan O’Leary. Damian Woodings assisted the equipping of our PIPECRAFT training centre by purchasing and donating a wood-turning lathe. A collection of recordings of performances by US-based pipers was donated by Rich Wolff. Padraic Lavin has forwarded to us a copy of his M.Sc. thesis A Similarity Matrix for Irish Traditional Dance Music, which has been added to our Library. Na Píobairí Uilleann has reciprocal arrangements with several other piping and musical bodies to exchange publications. Complete or near-complete runs of many of these publications are available to members in our library.
