Mary Friel & Irene Martin in conversation with Caitlín Níc Gabhann

From 8:30pm, Thursday 11th December 2025

Mary and Irene will discuss their experiences of travelling around Ireland dancing and learning local sets as well as the activities of Brooks Academy. Brooks Academy, founded in 1982, is a group of set-dancers based at the premises of Na Píobairí Uilleann in Dublin’s Henrietta Street. Brooks Academy was the first group to publish a collection of detailed instructions for Irish set-dancing and the first to publish recordings of dance music specially arranged for set dancing. Caitlín Nic Gabhann is a concertina player, performer, teacher, composer and percussive dancer. Having toured for years as a dancer with Riverdance, Caitlín is now a regular performer at festivals and concert halls from North America to Asia. Her mother Bernie is immersed in the Clare set-dancing culture and she passed a love of this on to her children with Caitlín being her dance partner at ceilís from a young age.
