Rónán Galvin – “The Tom Munnelly Collection: His First Year 1971-1972”

This talk will focus on Tom Munnelly’s first year as a full-time song collector with the Department of Irish Folklore. The collection is regarded as one of the largest and richest of its kind in the world and the talk will retrace Tom’s footsteps through many of the singers that he recorded in 1971 and 72. Rónán curated an exhibition titled ‘Captured by Song, Images from the Tom Munnelly Collection’ and also digitised a portion of his reel-to-reel sound collection relevant to the talk.

Notes & Narratives will take place at Na Píobairí Uilleann, 15 Henrietta Street, Dublin 1, starting at 8:30pm on Thursday 19th October 2023. Admission is €10 (unwaged / student / retired €5). For those unable to attend in person, it will also be live streamed for free through our channel NPU-TV.
