Armagh Pipers Club are delighted to announce details of the 30th anniversary edition of the William Kennedy Piping Festival. The event will take place at various venues across Armagh City from the 14th to 17th November. The festival will include concerts, workshops, sessions, lectures, events for children, plus an immersive uilleann piping academy in memory of the late Mark Donnelly.

What began in 1994 as a one-off celebration of the blind pipe-maker William Kennedy form Tandragee, Co. Armagh, has grown into one of the biggest and most prestigious events of its kind in the world. The festival has welcomed pipers and instrument makers from different cultures and traditions all over Europe, as well as North Africa, the Middle East and North America.

This year’s event will see the festival welcome back some of our favourite guests from over the 30 years plus introducing some new sounds to the local and international audience. Highlights include two exciting trios – Michael McGoldrick, John Carty & Matt Griffin, and Cillian Vallely, David & Patrick Doocey – who will be showcasing their recent albums At Our Leisure and The Yew and the Orchard. The cream of uilleann pipers will be present including Mark Redmond, Padraig McGovern, Colm Broderick, Caoimhín Ó Fearghail, Jarlath Henderson and Tiarnán Ó Duinnchinn. From further afield we welcome Paddi Benson & Grace Lemon from London, and Duo Lagrange Rutkowski from central France. More names to be announced soon.

The festival is sponsored by Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council.
