The earliest printed set-ting of the air bearing the title Limbricks Lamentation, appeared in Daniel Wrights .4ria di Cas era Beinga Collection of Scotch, Irish, and Welsh Airs published about 1730. An almost identical setting was printed inThe Hibernian. Iimn.se, published by S. A .& P. Thompson, London 1787. Limericks Lamentation is one of thenumbers in Bnntings General Collection of the Ancient Music of Ireland, London 2809 but the arrangement dif-fers so materially from that presented in McCulZaghs Collection of Irish Airs published in Dublin 1821, thatboth are submitted for comparison as one of many instances which lead us to believe that there were fewif any standards but those of individual taste, or preference in the settings or versions of Irish airsor tunes.
