Notes & Narratives – April
Join us on Thursday 16th April for Notes & Narratives with Vincent Doherty presenting ‘Kevin Mitchell – Free and Easy – the Man and the Songs’.
Notes & Narratives is a monthly series that brings traditional music, song and dance to life through performance, storytelling and conversation with leading traditional Irish musicians artists and researchers. This month’s speaker will be Vincent Doherty. Vincent Doherty is a singer and flute player. Born and reared in Derry, he has lived in Dublin since 1979. Known as an exponent of the “Northern style” he lists among his major influences Tyrone singer Geordie Hanna, and fellow Derryman Kevin Mitchell, whose life and songs Vincent is currently researching. Vincent first appeared, at the request of Finbar Boyle at The Tradition Club in Slattery’s in 1979. In 2013 Vincent released his first recording “The High Walls of Derry”. He is currently working on a new recording, which he hopes will be completed and released in 2026.
