The Early History of Piping in Ireland
‘Piping in Ireland’ is a joint Project instigated by Wilbert Garvin which involved Na Píobaíri Uilleann and the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (N.I.Branch) under the auspices of Cooperation Ireland.
The Steering Committee consisted of – John Crozier (RSPBA), Wilbert Garvin (NPU), Patricia Logan (NPU) and Fred Walker (RSPBA). The Project Manager was George Ussher.
The Project involved:
- an educational programme, organised by Tom Clarke, whereby 80 schools were visited by a group of musicians;
- four concerts celebrating the two traditions of piping in Ireland, and from which a video and CD have been compiled
- research into the early history of Piping in Ireland by Seán Donnelly, and a booklet of the findings published.
