TA pp1es in WinterWm. E Hanafin, Bostonrri fC --FJ : J. ;:- .__ : L 1L T LiA settingof this tune namedKennedy s Jig appears in ?Ioyce8 Ancient Iri sh Music -Dubi in 1890. Known tothe fiddlers and pipers on this side of the Atlantic in later years as Apples in Winter, it was printed underthat name in the ONeill Collections, but no variant of the popular jig so far in circulation, displays th skillof that played by the versatile Billy Hanafin, proficient on both instruments. It may be pertinent to add that the Jig named Apples in Winter in OFarrej1 Coll cuo, of Natio l Irish.Music forthe (In ion Pzpes,Lond 1797 is identical With Gillans Apples in former ONeill Collections.IiDOUBLE Jit l Tumble the TinkeraIi 112An excellent double jig called Tumble the Tinker, was printed for the first time in the enlargEd editionof ONejjj Irigh Music for Piano or Violin, issued in 1915. It was obtained from John McFadden a clever tra-ditional Irish fiddler of Chicago, who until thenhad forgotten the tune since leaving his native Mayo some for-ty years before.Since its publication as stated a spirited second finish has been developed. As varied in the pr.sent.settingfl&Tumble the Tinker, heretofore so little known is assuredly worthy of preservation, and enhancadpublicity.106 DouBL y JI193The Last of the LotjtIa.- w __ - I107I#_____ John MCFadden ChicagoVU,194 1 1H .Va-t:a.4:VI I4:Ii____ IL I I
