Image: Architect’s impression of Henrietta Street with the rebuilt premises adjoinng the existing NPU house. AS IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, a fund-raising effort will be undertaken in July in the form of a sponsored cycle from Dublin to Miltown Malbay. This will take place over two days, timed to arrive in Miltown on Saturday 5th July. The funds raised will be used in support of our project to rebuild no. 16 Henrietta Street for use as a training centre, visitor centre, museum and theatre. Participants should be 18 years of age or older and fit enough to undertake the 260km cycle in two days. Equipment is not supplied; riders must have their own bicycle, helmet, etc. and must also raise an initial deposit of €150. For more information contact emmett@pipers. ie, or look at the notice on our website. The deposit is required before April 4th and participants are encouraged to raise at least €500 for this project. REEDMAKING COURSES A SERIES OF three-day reedmaking courses will be held in the NPU training centre in Clonshaugh during the summer. The courses will take place on: June 16–18 with Donnacha Keegan July 21–23 with Donnacha Dwyer, and August 19–21 with Mick O’Brien Each course will run from 9:30am until 4:00pm on each day. There is a limited number of places available and these will be filled on a first-come basis and suitability. Applicants are requested to include details of their level of proficiency in piping and reedmaking when applying for a place on the course. The aim of these workshops is to look at all the aspects of the reed, from making it to getting it working in the specific chanter it is intended for, fine-tuning and maintaining it. Ideal candidates for this course must be able to play the pipes and will ideally have completed previous training with Na Piobairi Uilleann. Na Piobairi Uilleann are pleased to be in a position to offer this course at a cost of €60.00 per person due to extensive fund-raising and the assistance of The Arts Council. All applications by phone to Emmett on 01 8730093 or via email to admin@ pipers.ie.
