We are delighted to be able to report that Joe has made a good recovery. He plans to get back to the pipes soon, and hopes to resume his teaching schedule in the new year. Our best wishes go to Joe for a full and complete return to his usual form. TOMÁS ÓCANAINN W E ARE SORRY to bring the news of the death of Tomás Ó Canainn, pictured left at the first gather- ing of pipers in 1968 in Bettystown, co. Louth. Tomás had a long involvement in piping and in Irish traditional music generally. He played for many years with the group Na Filí, and pro- duced several books on Irish music including Traditional Music in Ireland (1978) and Tradi- tional Slow Airs of Ireland (1995).
