Píobaire, An 9 4 5 20130930 5 Gerry Lyons ~ NEWS & EVENTS ~ SPONSORED CYCLE N A PÍOBAIRÍ UILLEANN would like to thank all the cyclists, those who contributed and everyone who provided support for the Annual Sponsored Cycle. The 260km cycle from Dublin to Miltown Mal- bay, which took place on 5th and 6th July, raised a total of €32,045.19, exceeding this year’s target of €31,000. The funds generated will be used to develop the detailed design of the theatre over the coming months. Ultimately we plan to create a National Uil- leann Piping Visitor Centre including a theatre, museum and archive, and pipemaking training centre that our members and friends worldwide can be proud of. The funds raised are the next step towards an initial €2.6m required for phase 1 of our Capital Programme to reinstate the original 1730s Georgian building on the site of No. 16 Henrietta Street. The NPU Peloton arriving in Miltown Malbay N A PÍOBAIRÍ UILLEANN will again be hold- ing a co-ordinated International Uilleann Piping Day on Saturday, October 19, 2013 to raise awareness of the instrument around the world. This will be the third time we have run this event and, with the help of our members, we hope to make it bigger than ever. As a first step please let us know if you are in- terested in getting involved with other pipers in your locality or country, or if you have sugges- tions for this event, please notify us, as soon as possible, by contacting Ken Lynam at knlynam7@gmail.com Emmett Gill at emmettgill@hotmail.com
