With the support of the Crafts Council of Ireland we had started a pro- gramme to measure and accurately draw classic sets of pipes in order to provide basic information to inform the efforts of mod- ern-day pipemakers. The completed drawings were launched at the Rowsome Commemorative Event in late Feb- ruary, and were made available on our SOURCE website. Since then we have arranged to have 11 A GUIDE TO REED MAK- ING FOR THE UILLEANN PIPES PATRICK O’HARE (Available from Na Píobairí Uil- leann, 52pp,) €30.00 P IPEMAKER Paddy O’Hare has been acquiring a sound reputation for his instruments and for his reed-making, and has now committed his knowl- edge of the latter skill to a manual on the subject, which was launched earlier this year. Included are sections on ‘Reed Anatomy’, ‘Measuring Conven- tions’ and ‘Reed Dimensions’ along with a reading list and di- rectory of suppliers. The book is illustrated throughout in full colour. sets of the drawings printed, and these can be purchased through our online shop. The sets for sale are A2 size (420mm x 594mm) and are printed on heavy, durable paper. Each set is ac- companied by a booklet containing detailed measurements of all parts of the instruments, including bores, tone-holes etc.
