Píobaire, An 9 3 6 20130712 6 Tony Kearns NEW APPOINTMENTS N A PÍOBAIRÍ UILLEANN (NPU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Em- mett Gill as Administrator of the or- ganisation, effective from July 1st 2013. Emmett will succeed Gerry Lyons, who was re- cently appointed as Head of Development of NPU. Emmett, who will also report directly to the CEO, will be responsible for the efficient and effective running of the organisation to en- sure the delivery of outstanding services to uil- leann pipers, pipe makers, piping enthusiasts and the Irish traditional arts community world- wide. Emmett, who studied at Queens University, Belfast where he was awarded both B.A and M.A degrees in history and politics, is also an uilleann piper Emmett has over ten years’ experience in a va- riety of roles, including as an administrator leading teams in the financial services sector. Emmett also holds professional diplomas in fi- nance and compliance. Emmett has a strong track record of project management in the arts. He established the Old- time Records label which has to date released four CDs of historic recordings of Irish music complete with detailed notes. He has also man- aged the label’s website and the associated mar- keting and commercial activities of that label. We wish Emmett every success in his new role which he started on Monday July 1st 2013. SCHOLARSHIPS S IX SCHOLARSHIPS have been awarded for at- tendance at piping classes in Summer Schools this year. The successful applicants were Mark Óg Lysaght (Dublin), Claire Fen- nell (Waterford), Amy Campbell (Dublin), Seán Fulham (Dublin), Fionntan Byrne (Belfast), Ruáirí Howell (Down). The first to contact us was Pat “Herring” Ahern, who informed us that the group was gathered in the ruins of St. Finbarre’s monastery on the lake in Gougane Barra, which lies at the head waters of the river Lee.
