9 3 5 20130712 5 Tony Kearns ~ NPU NEWS ~ New Appointments N A PÍOBAIRÍ UILLEANN (NPU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Gerry Lyons to the position of Head of Develop- ment within the organisation. Re- porting to the CEO in this newly created position, Gerry will lead fundraising activities to raise €5 mil- lion in capital funding required to complete the reinstatement of 16 Henrietta Street, which will accom- modate a museum, theatre and na- tional uilleann pipes visitor centre in addition to the PIPECRAFT pipemak- ing training facility. The creation of this new role within NPU has been facilitated with the support of The Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon under the RAISE initiative. Gerry has served as Administrator of Na Píobairí Uilleann for the past six and a half years, having previously served on the board as Treasurer and Secretary. In that time he has made a major contribution to the implementation of key in- frastructural and process changes that have en- abled the organisation to deliver an ever- expanding array of services to its growing membership and to enthusiasts of the Irish tra- ditional arts throughout the world. Gerry has led key projects including the establishment of SOURCE, the online archive, PipeUp an in- teractive music tutorial resource, live broad- cast of events on NPU-TV, and the PIPECRAFT Pipemaking Video and Measurement Project. Prior to joining NPU, Gerry managed his own software business and over a thirty year period held senior positions within the I.T. sector in- cluding Sales, Customer Service and Software Development functions. Gerry is an uilleann piper and flute player and possesses a great passion and commitment to the traditional arts. We wish Gerry every success in his new role which he will take up on Monday July 15th 2013.
