Píobaire, An 9 1 11 20130207 11 THE MILTOWN CYCLE A S IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, a fund-raising ef- fort will be undertaken in July in the form of a sponsored cycle from Dublin to Miltown Mal- bay. This will take place over two days, timed to arrive in Miltown on Saturday 6th July. The funds raised will be used in support of PIPECRAFT, our Pipe-making Training Centre in Clonshaugh. Participants should be 18 years of age or older and fit enough to undertake the 260km cycle in two days. Equipment is not supplied; riders must have their own bicycle, helmet, etc. and must also raise an initial deposit of €150. For more information contact sandie@pipers.ie, or look at the notice on our website. The deposit is required before April 5th and participants are encouraged to raise at least €500 for PIPECRAFT. REGULAR EVENTS WITH NA PÍOBAIRÍ UILLEANN WEEKLY NPU PIPING & REED-MAKING CLASSES: Held weekly during the months Sep- tember to May on Tuesday nights. Classes start each hour from 5pm to 8pm. NPU RECITALS: Held in The Cobblestone on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:30pm Mar 5th – Ronan Sweeney (pipes), Tadhg Mulligan (fiddle), Caitlín Nic Gab- hann (concertina) and Tommy Fitzharris (flute) Apr 2nd – Pádraic MacMathúna (pipes), Tony Linnane (fiddle), Rosie Stew- art (songs), Loïc Blejean (pipes) and Louisa Bennion (concertina) May 7th – Robbie Hannan (pipes), Mairéad Hurley (concertina) and Tara Connaghan (fiddle) NOTES & NARRATIVES: Held in Henrietta Street on the third Friday of each month at 8:30pm. Feb 15th – Ronan Browne : Reuniting the Union Pipes with their Music. A recital of tunes and “pieces” gleaned from early manuscripts and publications of Irish music, played on Ronan's 1760s James Kenna pipes. Mar 15th – Caitríona Rowsome : A Perspective on the Legacy of Turlough Carolan May 17th – Marcas Ó Murchú : Irish Musicians in 20th century USA – Some As- pects of their Human Story LEO ROWSOME COMMEMORATIVE EVENT: Held annually on the last Saturday in Febru- ary. The 2013 event will take place on the 23rd of February. NPU TIONÓL: Held annually on the weekend before the last Monday of May, in 2013 the weekend of May 24th to 26th. ADVANCED REED-MAKING CLASSES: Classes are held each summer. In 2013 each class will consist of three full days, starting on 17th June, 22nd July and 29th August. SCOIL SAMHRAIDH WILLIE CLANCY: Held annually on the first full calendar week in July. It always starts on the first Saturday of July, the 6th of July in 2013. ACE & DEUCE OF PIPING CONCERT: Held annually on the first weekend in October, the 2013 concert will take place on Saturday October 5th. INTERNATIONAL UILLEANN PIPING DAY: Now an annual event, this year’s global day of uilleann piping will take place on Saturday 19 October. BREANDÁN BREATHNACH COMMEMORATION: Held annually on the first Saturday of De- cember. The 2013 event will take place on Saturday, December 7th.
