9 1 4 20130207 4 T HROUGH THE GOOD OFFICES OF JIM MCGUIRE NPU has received a donation of a large col- lection of audio recordings of piping. They were mostly recorded in the United States, but also include sessions that took place in Ireland and Britain. The pipers featured in the record- ings include Al Purcell, Joe Shannon, Andy Conroy, Peadar Broe, Sean Seery, Gay Mc- Keon, Liam O’Flynn, Mick O’Brien, Paddy Keenan and Christy O’Leary. These will be made available though our online SOURCE web- site as soon as they can be processed. ~ DONATIONS & ACQUISITIONS ~ The donation of a Charles Roberts set of pipes, by the family of deceased member Lanfranco Pierac- cini, was mentioned in the last issue of An Píobaire. Also included in the gift, at Lanfranco’s request, was a framed copy of Albrecht Dürer’s famous image of a piper, pictured at left. We are most appreciative of this generous donation, which represents a signifi- cant addition to our archive of piping images. We also received a copy of the journal Léachtaí Cholm Cille XL – Foinn Agus Focail, which in- cludes an article by Nicholas Carolan on the piper and collector Canon James Goodman. This was donated by the Irish Traditional Music Archive. Other donations included two publications of the Genealogical Society of Ireland, presented by the Society – their Journal for 2012, and Féil-Scríbhill Liam Mhic Alasdair, a collection of essays. Two catalogues of musical instruments (including pipes) were purchased – from the Musée des Instruments de Musique in Brussels, and the Stearns Collection at the University of Michigan. Na Píobairí Uilleann has reciprocal arrangements with several other piping and musical bodies to ex- change publications. Complete or near-complete runs of many of these publications are available to members in our library.
