Píobaire, An 8 5 6 20121206 6 IMCO T HE LATEST ADDITION to our Irish Music Col- lections Online (IMCO) website is Patrick Weston Joyce’s Ancient Irish Music, published in 1873. This can be accessed at our online resource www.pipers.ie/IMCO The sub-title of the work – “One hundred Irish airs hitherto unpublished; many of the old popu- lar songs; and several new songs” – gives a good idea of the random nature of the content and the ‘stamp-collector’ attitude of the time. GHOST ‘D’ HEARD IN KERRY A N ARTICLE in The Irish Times on April 17 reported the unusual phenomenon of a “humming noise”, pitched at E flat, which was heard over a wide area of Kerry for a number of weeks. The sound had been reported from Tralee, Moll’s Gap, Kilgarvan and Sneem, and was most noticeable at night. It seems that “the days of the Kerry dances” have returned, and the sound is none other than the “ring of the piper’s tune”.
