Píobaire, An 7 4 6 20110920 6 ~ NEWS & EVENTS ~ IMCO A further collection has been added to our IRISH MUSIC COLLECTIONS ONLINE (IMCO) web- site resource. This is the anonymously published Gems from the Emerald Isle. This collection has no publication date, but was published by Metzler and Co., who were in business in London between 1842 abd 1881. It contains 100 assorted Irish airs and dance tunes, the majority being jigs of one kind or an- other. A selection have been included in this issue on pages 18-20. The IMCO collections can be accessed at: www.pipers.ie/IMCO BREATHNACH COMMEMORATION WE remember Breandán Breathnach each year with a day of activities devoted to pip- ing, with a mixture of practical and academic events. This year’s event will take place on Sat- urday, December 3rd, and will include piping and reedmaking classes, a lecture and a recital. Please keep this date free to help make this a successful occasion. TIONÓL 2012 NEXT year’s Tionól will take place in Listowel, co. Kerry on the weekend of May 25-27. All activities will take place in the Listowel Arms Hotel. With 40 rooms, this establishment is bigger than the hotel used for this year’s tionól, so it should be able to accomodate all wishing to attend the event. The hotel is offering a package of two nights B+B and one evening meal for €125 per person shar- ing. We would encourage members to book early to avail of this offer. Bookings should be made through NPU. A lifelong piping enthusiast, and a former pupil of Leo Rowsome, Vivian was a regular visitor to Na Píobairí Uilleann’s events, and was a generous contributor of funds and of legal expertise when we first occupied no. 15 Henrietta Street in 1979.
