Píobaire, An 7 4 3 20110920 Tom Creegan, Michael Cooney and Fiachra O’Regan. Seth Gallagher will be doing the reed- making workshop INTERNATIONAL DAY OF UILLEANN PIPING ACTIVITY. This co-ordinated international day of uilleann piping activity is planned to take place on Saturday, October 15th. It will serve to pro- mote the playing of the instrument generally and to raise awareness of our PIPECRAFT initiative aimed at strengthening the craft of uilleann pipe making. Over the years the increasingly interna- tional membership has helped to spread the knowledge of best prac- tices in pipemaking, reed making and the gathering of good quality uilleann pipe measurements. These developments and the audio-visual material, to- gether with the articles in the Seán Reid Society Journal, have enabled in- terested and learner mak- ers to produce instruments of high qual- ity and reliability with less time wasted in the slower pace of self-in- struction. The PIPECRAFT pipe-making training centre in Clonshaugh, Dublin 17 is a natural fol- low-on from general improvements in pipe mak- ing knowledge promotion. The centre is being used to deliver short training courses and other similar and related pipe making and reed making activities. 3 THIS year’s Willie Clancy Summer school was as good as any in the past and piping and reedmaking numbers held up quite well despite tougher economic times worldwide. The daily piping recitals and the piping concert all featured fine players as usual and it was most inspiring to see the young scholarship recipient players especially performing with such matu- rity and skill. Our earnest wishes for recovery go to Summer School Director, Muiris Ó Rocháin who despite debilitating illness, continues to do his part in keeping the spirit and direction of the school going so strongly. Muiris’s son, piper Séa- mus Ó Rocháin, was ably assisting in the work of the School, maintaining a vital succession, in line with the vision and plans of founders Willie Clancy, Martin Talty and Sean Reid. The Willie Clancy Summer School continues to be the pre- mier event for learning and absorbing Irish tradi- tional music, song and dance. Long may it continue! SOME EVENTS TO NOTE THE NORTHEAST TIONÓL in East Durham, New York, USA. This will be held on October 21-24, 2011 with an impressive line up of instructors including Jerry O’Sullivan, Nollaig McCarthy,
