Píobaire, An 7 2 12 20110510 12 Mal Whyte ~ EVENTS ~ CAPITAL CRAFT D UBLIN’S Temple Bar quarter and adja- cent streets have always had a close as- sociation with the art of uilleann piping and the craft of pipe-making. This was recognised in March when Na Píobairí Uil- leann mounted an exhibition entitled CAPITAL CRAFT in The Culture Box, East Essex Street, right across the road from the site of NPU’s former premises (long ago demolished and re- placed with a space that was subsequently named “Rory Gallagher Corner”). The exhibition was run in association with The Crafts Council of Ireland as a way of partici- pating in the Year of Craft 2011, and was sup- ported by The Temple Bar Cultural Trust. It consisted of a display of images of sets of uil- leann pipes and of their makers, with an em- phasis on the great names associated with the craft in Dublin – Egan, Timothy Kenna, Mau- rice Coyne and Leo Rowsome. Also featured were some of the players associated with pip- ing in Dublin over the years, from ‘Blind The PIPERLINK team – Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Tommy Keane, Donnacha Dwyer and Seán Donnelly – performing during the CAPITAL CRAFT exhibition in Temple Bar
