6 5 5 20101217 5 ~ NEWS & EVENTS ~ Gerry Lyons N A PIOBAIRI UILLEANN has established and commissioned a new pipe-mak- ing training centre in an industrial unit on the north side of Dublin. The workshop is equipped to a very high stan- dard, with lathes (including four Myfords, and a wood lathe donated by Damian Woodings), bandsaw and milling machine, polishers, CAD computer equipment, safety equipment, drills and other hand tools, as well as a stock of tim- ber, metal and decorative material. During the year we advertised for expressions of interest from people who would be inter- ested in taking part in training courses at the centre, and so far nearly one hundred applica- tions have been received. A preliminary syllabus has been designed and training courses will commence when ade- quate funding has been secured to sustain them. Above: one of the Myford lathes.
