This tionólis one of three regular meetings the DUPGorganizes throughout the year and the small-est one at that. There were no Irish pipingteachers, but the German teachers includingTom Kannmacher (pipes), Andreas Rogge(reed making and maintenance), SabinePichler (fiddle) and Markus Metz (Irish lan-guage course) again did their very best to pro-vide good lessons and ample learning oppor-tunities.The number of 34 participants involving 15active pipers was rather small compared tothe two other tionóls in spring and summer, yet making the atmosphere all the more famil-iar and relaxing. With a small concert onSaturday night and various sessions includingone for the kids on both nights the house res-onated with the magic charm of Irish tunesthat somehow seemed to expand into the star-lit nights above the Hunsrueck moun-tains................and all in good cheer – untilnext year!Uli PlasbergBack row (from left to right): Frank Weber / Heike Horstmann / Jackie Small (Galway) / Fritz Hoffmeister /Andreas Rogge (the Pipemaker from Tübingen) / Bernd Klippert / Uli Plasberg / Eckart Mansfeld / Uli Becker /Tom Kannmacher. I have taught at CeltFestsince its foundation and on the couple ofoccasions that I was unable to be there, thestudents were taught by Dublin piper TomCregan, who now lives in Seattle.Guidance is also given on reedmaking when-ever there is enough demand. In the past, avisit with students to Rob Moore’s workshopnear Cobble Hill was always a treat. Rob,who until recently made uilleann pipes andNorthumbrian pipes, supplies practice sets tothe school for use by absolute beginners, orother pipers who want to try their hand at uil-leann pipes. He has alsobeen known to fix ormake a reed or two ifnecessary.Information at:www.CelticPerformingArts.comTwo participants in CeltFest:“The Birkenscots”, MartinNolan and Northumbrianpiper Dick Hensold
