SUMMARY:Culture Night 2026
DESCRIPTION:This Culture Night\, Na Píobairí Uilleann will open the doors of its Georgian headquarters on Henrietta Street for an evening celebrating the sound and tradition of the uilleann pipes. \nThroughout the evening\, visitors can attend talks and piping demonstrations in the library\, taking place on the hour\, every hour\, and discover the history\, craftsmanship\, and musical traditions associated with Ireland’s national instrument. In the basement\, live performances by traditional Irish musicians of all ages will showcase the spirit of Ireland’s piping tradition. \nThere will also be the opportunity to try the uilleann pipes yourself\, with a hands-on session provisionally scheduled from 19:00-20:00\, subject to demand. Please register interest in trying the pipes by emailing info@pipers.ie. \nSet within one of Dublin’s most historic streets\, this event offers a unique opportunity to experience a treasured element of Ireland’s musical heritage and learn more about the tradition that continues to inspire musicians today.

SUMMARY:Try the Pipes - ICH National Heritage Week
DESCRIPTION:By the 1960s very few people in Ireland were playing the pipes and far fewer\, perhaps only five\, were engaged in the making of the instrument. It was a matter of grave concern that the art would decline further and so Na Píobairí Uilleann (NPU) was founded in 1968 at grassroots level by pipers themselves. \nTo celebrate National Heritage Week 2026’s theme of “Heritage At Risk“\, NPU will be hosting a Try the Pipes event\, an event designed to encourage people to take up the pipes.  Try the Pipes events are regularly hosted by Na Píobairí Uilleann. Events feature a short performance/demonstration by pipers followed by the opportunity to get your hands on the instrument and try playing them yourself! We hope to see you there! \nThe event will be free & open to the public. \n📅Wednesday 19th August\, 2-5pm \n📍Na Píobairí Uilleann HQ\, 15 Henrietta Street\, D01 N504 \nThis project received funding through a joint initiative by the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport and the National Monuments Service to support practices inscribed on Ireland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage. \nIreland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage is managed by the Department of Culture\, Communications and Sport and can be viewed at https://nationalinventoryich.ccs.gov.ie/ . The National Monuments Service is delighted to support this initiative that highlights the strong relationship between tangible and intangible heritage.
