Richie Piggott – “The Transmission of Irish Music: A Personal View of Chicago”

The presentation will address the transmission/sharing of Irish music in its broadest sense, covering:

• Inter-community sharing of music in the latter 19th century
• Learning from the master
• Sharing and learning tunes from written manuscripts
• Sharing of non-commercial recorded music on early acetates, Reel to reel and cassette

Musicians featured will include Johnny McGreevy, Aggie Whyte, Sean Reid, Paddy Cronin and Padraig O’Keeffe

Notes & Narratives will take place at Na Píobairí Uilleann, 15 Henrietta Street, Dublin 1, starting at 8:30pm on Thursday 15th June 2023. Admission is €10 (unwaged / student / retired €5). For those unable to attend in person, it will also be live streamed for free through our channel NPU-TV.
