Notes and Narratives – illustrated talk by Michael Kelly
November 18 @ 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm€10
Mayo Pipers of the Past
Michael’s research has identified more than 80 Mayo pipers born pre-1920 (including 15 mentioned by Francis O’Neill). As well as musical dynasties like the Carneys of Irishtown and the travelling Rainey’s, County Mayo can boast such noted pipers as Michael Egan, Michael Wallace, Tom Killeen, Pat Nally and Joe Shannon. Most, however, remain obscure figures. Ironically those who emigrated are better documented. The latter include Thomas Garoghan’s teacher, Patsy Touhey’s teacher and an associate of the Taylor brothers – all three hailing from the same East Mayo parish.
The talk will take place in 15 Henrietta Street, Dublin 1 and will start at 8:30pm on Thursday 18th November 2021. Admission is €10 (concession rate €5). Tickets are available through Eventbrite or contact the office at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone +353 01 87 30093. For those unable to attend in person, It will also be live streamed through our channel NPU-TV.
*In line with Government restrictions, the event will be limited capacity and all attendees will be required to provide a Covid 19 Cert (being fully vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 within the previous 6 months) and a valid photo ID.
