introductory matter there is a suggestive article on the subject of this class of songsin Wales, dealing with both the words and the tunes.Gosa Buidhe Arda, by Finghin na Leamhna (Brown and Nolan, 6d.). Acollection of about thirty little songs, many of them of the nursery-rhyme type, forsmall children. The words and tunes are nearly all traditional and were collectedhere and there throughout Munster. The tunes, which are given in the tonic sol-fanotation, have been written down from the singing of Finghin himself. A number ofthe songs were published before in Am LOchramn and in various small books which, according to the custom of good Irish publications, are now out of print. Inrepublishing these, the collector has made additions and improvements in all caseswhere he has gained more knowledge about them in the meantime. No one whoknows the work of Finghin na Leamhna will need to be told that this is a reliableand charming little book. It is illustrated with photographs of children and smallcuts and has a green and white picture on the cover. The Preface contains the goodnews that this is to ho followed soon by another collection on similar lines, butsuitable for older children.VJournal of the Irish Folk Song SocietyVOL.
