Píobaire, An 8 2 6 20120411 6 ~ NEWS & EVENTS ~ REELS ON WHEELS T HE ANNUAL NPU PIPECRAFT sponsored cycle from Dublin to Miltown Malbay for the Willie Clancy Summer School is on the horizon again and we are inviting you to take up the challenge by joining us on this exciting trip. The 170 mile journey sets off from Dublin with a Garda escort on Friday morning July 6, 2012 and lands in Miltown on the Sunday afternoon with stopovers in Tullamore and Feakle en route. The chosen route is primarily flat with some beautiful countryside on the way to enjoy. Aimed at cyclists of all abilities, the cycle is punc- tuated by two nights of music, plenty of sport and provides NPU not only with a great opportunity to generate much needed funding – we raised €20,000 over the past two years – but also to raise awareness for the organisation, in particular for the pipe-making project at our PIPECRAFT work- shop in Clonshaugh which requires critical long- term funding to sustain the training. The only requirements for participating in the cycle is that you are over 18, fit enough to cycle 60 miles in one day (at your own pace), have a bike, a helmet and raise the initial deposit of €150 which covers your cost of bed and break- fast for two nights. For more details about the PIPECRAFT Spon- sored Cycle, contact Helen@pipers.ie, or look at the notice on our website. A deposit of €150 is required before April 6th to confirm partici- pation, while participants are encouraged to raise up to €500 in sponsorship if possible. DENIS RYA N TOMMY PEOPLES T HE DONEGAL fiddle-player Tommy Peoples has been elected to the Arts-Council sup- ported body Aosdána. T HE DEATH has taken place of Denis Ryan, a member of NPU who lived in New South Wales. Denis was a regular and welcome visi- tor to Henrietta Street whenever he visited Ire- land, and our condolences are offered to his family and many friends. PADDY KEENAN TO PLAY IN HENRIETTA STREET A SPECIAL EVENT will take place at Na Píobairí Uilleann in Henrietta Street in June, when Paddy Keenan will give a solo recital. The performance will be on June 29th at 9:00pm. It will be an all-ticket event and the tickets, priced at €15.00, will be made available shortly on our website.
