The Pipes, the Pipe Maker and the Pipe Maker’s Son
0

‘The Pipes, the Pipe Maker and the Pipe Maker’s Son’ will be broadcast on West Dublin Access Radio 96fm on the following dates and times:

Tuesday Dec 3rd at 10.30am

Tuesday Dec. 10th at 10.30am

Livestreaming: www.wdar.ie

‘The Pipes, the Pipe Maker and the Pipe Maker’s Son’ is a two-part documentary series that explores the world of uilleann pipe-making and the playing of this distinctively Irish musical instrument.

Featuring Leixlip based Ballyfermot man, Donnacha Keegan, and his son, Cormac, each half-hour programme will document parts of the intensive pipe-making process as Donnacha builds a set of pipes for his 15-year old son.

The series will also visit na Piobairí Uilleann, the pipers’ club in Dublin, where the art of pipe-making and piping is promoted and preserved through educational tours and the provision of practical courses in all aspects of pipe-making.

The sound of the piper’s workshop and the playing of the pipes by the piper and his son provide a vivid backdrop to this fascinating portrayal of an iconic aspect of Irish culture and heritage that was once on the verge of extinction.

‘The Pipes, the Pipe Maker and the Pipe Maker’s Son’ is produced by West Dublin Access Radio with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.
